Should Sebastopol Outsource Our City Attorney Position?

Bumping up an older thread that seems more relevant than ever given our city's state of fiscal emergency.

Mayor Hinton has indicated that a city attorney for Sebastopol is a required position, and that's why no mention of it was included in the poll conducted on behalf of the ad hoc special-election committee.

Wouldn't a contract with an external law firm fulfill this requirement? If not,where is this requirement stated?

Several have city attorneys, but many do not. How do they handle their legal necessities? They contract with an external law firm.

For example: John D. Bakker currently serves as City Attorney for the City of Dublin and the City of Cotati.
